there will be increase in wealth, property, children and good reputation, if the Rāśi has more than 40 Rekhas.
30-31. The Rāśi, which is auspicious in Ashtaka Varga Samudaya, is considered auspicious for all auspicious functions. Consequently the auspiciousness of Ashtaka Varga should be got checked before performing any function, like marriage etc. If a Rāśi is not auspicious in Ashtaka Varga, then its auspiciousness should be checked from transit effects. It is not necessary to check transit effects, if a Rāśi is auspicious in Ashtaka Varga. Thus the auspiciousness of the Rāśi in the Ashtaka Varga should be considered, as paramount.
ASHTAKAVARGA PREDICTION
8The Ashtakavarga
The asthakavargas is a unique way of dividing each of the 12 rasis into eight sub divisions, based on the influence of the lagna and the 7 main planets on these 12 rasis. Rahu & Ketu are omitted in asthakavargas. Based on their individual positions in a horoscope, the lagna and the 7 main planets, contribute certain positive and negative influences on the 12 signs of the horoscope. These influences are called bindus and rekhas, which are positive and negative points. There is a confusion and controversy between South Indians and North Indians about the bindus and rekhas and which of them is benific and malefic. So lets simply call them positive points and negative points to avoid confusion.
For AV purpose each rasi is divided into 8 parts called Kakshas. Each kaksha has a span of 3:45′. The 1st kaksha of each rasi is ruled by saturn, the 2nd by jupiter, 3rd by mars, 4th by sun, 5th by venus, 6th by mercury, the 7th by moon and the 8th by the lagna. Mainly 3 types of Ashtakavarga charts are used to study the effects of the planets.

The 1st type are the Bhinnashtakavarga charts, prepared for the lagna and the 7 planets – total 8 charts are made. In the picture above we have given the Bhinnashtakavarga chart of sun – to the left side. The rasis are marked horizontally by the respective rasi numbers, i.e., 1 for Aries, 2 for Taurus etc. The 8 Kakshas are to be seen vertically. A Bhinnashtakavarga kaksha of any rasi can contain only one point. If a positive point is contributed by any planet in a kaksha it is marked by 1, if a negative one then by 0. So we can see that in the chart of the Bhinnashtakavarga of sun, in the sign Aries (under 1), saturn has contributed a positive point in the first kaksha, jupiter has contributed a negative point in the 2nd kaksha and so on. The total positive points contributed in Aries are 4. We can see the other signs similarly. The Bhinnashtakavarga charts of planets are very useful to study the transit effects of planets. For example sun transits a rasi for one month. But the results he gives are not uniform throughout the month. He produces good results while transiting the Kakshas where there is a positive point and if negative point is there he gives bad results. In this case while transiting the 1st kaksha of Aries, from 0 degrees to 3:45′, he gives good results as saturn has contributed a positive point there. In the next kaksha, from 3:45 to 7:30′, where there is a negative point contributed by jupiter, he gives bad results. As Aries has 4 positive and 4 negative points in suns BAV chart, suns transit results in Aries for the native of this chart are 50% good and 50% bad. When the sun transits Libra for one month its results are very bad as it has only 2 positive points. Suns transit of Sagittarius is the best with 6 PP. So a rasi with 4 good points gives medium results, better with more and worse with less.
The good or bad effects will have a relation with the planet contributing the point, either positive or negative. They will have a link to its nature, house ownership etc.
In similar fashion with the help of the BAV charts of the other planets we can study their transit effects.
The sarvasthakavarga chart, to the right of suns BAV chart, is the combined detailed summary of how many positive points each of the 7 planets and lagna are contributing in all the rasis.
The Samudaya Ashtakavarga chart bellow gives a brief at a glance idea of how many total good points are there in each house. Houses with 25 or more produce good results when planets transit them. If the points are below 25 then the results are negative.

Ashtakavarga has many more applications. While analyzing the effects of a house, by studying how many total good and bad points are there, contributed by which planets, etc give several clues about the house effects. While studying the effects of a planet placed in a particular house, by studying in how many degrees he is placed in that house and in which planets kaksha, the points contributed by the planets in the kaksha, give us us predictive clues as to the planets nature results etc. Ashtakavarga is also employed to study longevity of a native by doing several complicated mathematical calculations and by doing trikona reductions etc. Even for those who know astrology, the Ashtakavarga is an advanced application.
Ashtakavarga is a very sophisticated and unique transit system. There is nothing else like it anywhere in the world. In Vedic Astrology, there is such a plethora of techniques to choose from. According to Parasara, to make the process of prediction a lot simpler, Ashtakavarga can be used. To practice Ashtakavarga effectively, it is important to be very familiar with the qualities and actions of each planet as a karaka and the qualities and actions of each house. This is the key. In Ashtakavarga, Varga charts are not used.
A transit of a planet through a Sign has many layers of meanings. For example, when Jupiter is transiting a Sign, you judge the effect of Jupiter transiting to all the planets plus the Ascendant. You judge the transit of Jupiter to not only the natal Moon, as in Gochara, but also to the natal Sun, natal Mars, natal Mercury, natal Jupiter, natal Venus, natal Saturn and the Ascendant. sexual union, pregnancy and reproduction of human species are the essentials on which the world exists. Sexual union should never be based upon simple sense gratification. The time of conception ("Garbhadhaana") is very important and should be carefully planned.
The value of time is inestimable. All objects in nature are produced in "Time", developed in "Time" and destroyed in "Time". The truth of these statements requires no further proof. It stands unchallenged. Time has got it's own properties. Creative, protective and destructive forces are embedded in the womb of time. If there could be a tool, which can give us a clue as to when the various kinds of creative and destructive forces are in operation, it would be of great help. A person can time his efforts to do the right thing at the right moment so that his activities are in harmony with the laws of nature.
To understand it further, just see that there is a time to sow and a time to reap. Why not we do the sowing operation during the harvest season? Nature would be against us. During the sowing season, creative forces are in operation. When an important activity is to be undertaken, destructive forces have to be screened off. Thus, the time of conception (Garbhadhaana) is very important. The birth of Ved Vyaas, the great scholar and the author of Mahabharata is believed to have been the culmination of a union at a time when planetary positions were conductive to produce a philosopher. Each moment has got its own potency. The moment at which we elect to do an important act is not certainly an insignificant epoch.

Ashtakvarga is a branch of Vedic Jyotish which fell into disuse due to laborious and error prone calculations involved. But with the advent of computers, Ashtakvarga has become the subject of modern times. Our ancient sages never advocated for a "son" - but for a "virtuous son". All their astrological wisdom has been applied so that an intelligent and dutiful son could be born to a couple.

However, if one is unable to calculate dates with such precision and confirmation to all these sets of conditions, at least one can plan conception during a month which coincides with the Sun's transit in the sign having highest auspicious points in Jupiter's Ashtakvarga. Classical texts say that a virtuous son will be born out of this conception.
All this exercise in choosing a proper date and time for the purpose of conception will ensure that all possible good cosmic vibrations are centered such that the energy generated would nullify all other unfavourable factors and enhances the chances of success of the effort. A person is thus enabled to remove, neutralize, counter-act or overcome the evils indicated by his/her horoscope. Horoscopy is diagnostic. It merely points out the ills but prescribes no remedies. Suppose evil planets in the fifth house indicate loss of children. Then, proper timing of consummation, when ethereal currents released from the planets are so powerful as to minimize or modify the afflictions to the extent that the birth and survival of at least some children may be ensured. Sutras 96-102-If the Sun is in the eleventh house the native will have substantial income from agricultural operations. In his 25th year he will acquire conveyances. By the use of his wealth and diplomatic talk, he will be able to acquire more wealth. He will suffer from a serious kind of fever and will have cordial relations with his employees. If the Sun is with a malefic he will incur lot of expenditure and will be without any conveyance. If the Sun is in his own sign or is exalted, he will have immense wealth. If the Sun is in conjunction with the lord of the 4th house, he will have sources of income at many places and will acquire conveyances and will be very fortunate.
Comments- 11th is an upachaya house and is very auspicious and beneficial for almost all planets unless they are lords of bad houses or there is malefic influence on them. The Sun in the 11th according to Sutra 96 gives substantial income from agricultural operations. The native also acquires conveyances and is able to gain wealth by talking in a diplomatic manner according to Sutra 97. Diplomacy is acquired by the native as the Sun aspects the 5th house which signifies diplomacy. If the Sun is in his own sign or is exalted the acquisition of wealth will be more accentuated but if the Sun is associated with a malefic there will be loss of wealth probably on account of native becoming extravagant. He will also not possess any conveyance. The conjunction of the Sun with the lord of 4th has been stated to be. very beneficial to the native. Although it is not mentioned in the above Sutras, conjunction of the Sun with the lord of 2nd, 1st or 9th would also be very beneficial particularly when the Sun be in his own sign.

Phaldeepika-The native will be wealthy, longlived and happy. He will have command over many persons, that is, he will be of high status.

Chamatkar Chifitamani-The native will acquire wealth from the king (Government) and possess many kinds of wealth. He will destroy his enemies by his valour but will be unhappy in the matter of children.

The Moon in the Sixth House
Sutras 33-40-If the Moon is in the sixth, the native will be poor and of diseased body. In his 36th year native will develop illicit relations with a widow. If the Moon is associated with a malefic the native will indulge in sinful deeds. If the Moon is in conjunction with Rahu or Ketu the native will be bereft of wealth, he will have dangerous enemies, will be quarrelsome, without brothers and will suffer from stomach ailments. If this disposition watery places like ponds, wells, may prove dangerous for his life. If the Moon is in conjunction with a malefic the native will suffer from ill health. If the Moon is waning, it will give totally malefic results. If the Moon is in conjunction with a benefic the native will have strong constitution and will be free from diseases.
Comments-The Moon if posited in the sixth will lose all her good significations and the evil effects will be aggravated if the Moon comes under malefic influences. The native will indulge in sinful and immoral deeds because the ‘sattvic’ qualities of the planet will be destroyed by malefic influences. The Moon is a watery planet, therefore under malefic influences watery places will become a source of danger for the native. If the Moon in the sixth is under benefic influences the native will enjoy good health.
Other Views
Brihat Jataka-The person concerned will have many enemies, will have a delicate constitution and a dyspeptic appetite. His sexual passion will also be weak. He will be harsh in temperament and indolent in his work.
Phaldeepika-The native will be short lived and stupid. He will suffer from stomach ailments and will be defeated and humiliated by enemies.
Mars in the Eleventh House
Sutras 86-89-The native besides enjoying prosperity on account of his dexterity in his affairs, will be involved in manifold activities. If Mars is associated with the lord of the llth, the native will be a king. If Mars is associated with two benefics, the native rules over a big kingdom and his brother will be prosperous.
Comments-The eleventh house, is an upachaya house where malefics give good results. The conclusions mentioned are very logical and to the point. Mars will also give very good results if he is in llth house in his own sign. Still better results will be realised if Mars is in his sign of exaltation (Capricorn). In this disposition Pisces will be the ascendant and Mars will be in the llth as lord of the 2nd and 9th, giving rise to a very powerful Dhanayoga.

Saravali-The native will be full of good qualities, happy, valourous and wealthy. He will also be blessed with children.
Chamatkar Chintamani–Mars in the llth is bad for enemies and children. Even if a person is unfortunate, he will consider himself as fortunate. He will earn wealth by selling cows, horses, elephants and chariots. He will be very miser and his wealth will be destroyed
Mercury in the Tenth House
Sutras 67-70-If Mercury is in the tenth house the native will be successful by performing virtuous deeds. He will be patient, will have wide spread reputation and will be a great thinker. In his 28th year he will suffer from eye troubles. If Mercury is in his own sign or in his sign of exaltation or is in conjunction with Jupiter, the native will perform many kinds of religious rites. If Mercury is in the house of his enemy, or is associated with a malefic, the native will be stupid, will indulge in sinful deeds and will be of bad conduct.
Comments-The above Sutras have ascribed beneficial results to Mercury in the tenth house unless he is under malefic influence. However, the statement in Sutra 68, that the native will suffer from eye troubles in his 28th year does not appear logical and relevant to the significations of Mercury and the tenth house. If Mercury is in the 10th house in his own sign Gemini he will be there as lord of the ascendant and the tenth in the 10th house. If he is in his own sign Virgo (this is also his sign of exaltation) he will be there as lord of seventh and tenth in .the tenth house. These are very favourable dispositions. Lord of 10th in the 10th or lord of 9th in 10th (Capricorn ascendant) also forms a powerful Raja yoga which is capable of giving the native great name, fame and popularity.
Mercury in the tenth in his own sign or in his sign of exaltation, being in Kendra to the ascendant, will also give rise to Bhadra yoga, the effects of which have already been described earlier in this chapter.
If Mercury as a benefic occupies the tenth house from the ascendant Amia yoga is also formed, the results of which have been given as under:-
“The person will achieve lasting fame and reputation. His character will be spotless and he will lead a prosperous life.”
For Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces ascendants, Mercury in the tenth as lord of the ascendant and 4th, as lord of the ascendant and the 10th, as lord of 7th and the 10th, as lord of the 4th and 7th respectively will give rise to powerful Dhan yogas
Jupiter in the Eleventh House
Sutras 50-53-If Jupiter is in the eleventh house, the native will be learned, wealthy and will have lot of financial gains. In his 32nd year he will possess horses to ride on (this means he will acquire conveyances) and will have widespread reputation. If he is associated with benefics and malefics he will possess elephants and will have pronounced good luck. If Jupiter is associated with Moon, the native will have effortless financial gains.
Comments-Jupiter will be of immense good to the native according to above Sutras if he is in the eleventh. In Sutra 52 it is stated that if Jupiter is associated with benefics and malefics, the native will acquire elephants (conveyances) and enjoy increased prosperity. Jupiter is the greatest benefic amongst the planets. Another benefic in conjunction with him will therefore become a formidable beneficial combination. The learned author seems to be of the view that one or two malefics in conjunction with such a strong benefic combination cannot noticeably alter the benefic results. Further llth is an upachaya house in which even malefics produce good results. When Jupiter is in Sagittarius, Aquarius will be the ascendant and he will be in the llth as lord of 2nd and llth. When he is in Cancer, (his sign of exaltation) Virgo will be the ascendant and he will be in the llth exalted as lord of the 4th and 7th houses. These are very powerful Dhana yogas.

Note-Except Saravali all the above authorities have expressed the view that Venus in the twelfth house will make the native rich. According to Bhrigu Sutras the native will face extreme poverty but will be very rich if Venus is associated with a benefic. We in this matter support the view of Brihat Jataka, Phaldeepika and Chamatkar Chintamani. The following Shloka from Bhavartha Ratnakar also gives support to the stand taken by us:-
This means that Venus in the sixth gives the same yoga effect (wealth) which he gives by being posited in the twelfth house.

Sun in your 11th house
If benefic:
(1) If the native is vegetarian he will have three sons and will himself be head of the house and will get benefits from government.
If malefic:
(1) The Moon is in the 5th house and the Sun is not aspected by good planets, the will have a short life span.
Remedial Measures :
(1) Abstain from meat and wine.
(2) Keep almonds or radishes near the head of the bed and offer it in the temple next day for long life and children.
Moon in your 6th house
This house is affected by the Mercury and Ketu. The Moon in this house will be affected by the planets placed in the 2nd, 8th, 12th and 4th houses. The native will receive education with obstacles and will have to struggle a lot for reaping the benefits of his educational achievements.
If the Moon is placed in the 6th, 2nd, 4th, 8th and 12th houses it is auspicious. The native would enliven a dying person by putting a few drops of water in his mouth.
But if the Moon is malefic in the 6th house and Mercury is placed in the 2nd or 12th house, the native will have suicidal tendencies. Similarly, if the Moon is malefic and the Sun is placed in the 12th house, then the native or his wife or both will have severe eye defects and troubles.
Remedies
(1) Serve milk to your father with your own hands.
(2) Never take milk during night. But intake of milk during day time and use of even curd and cheese during night is permissible.
(3) Do not offer milk as donation. It can be given only at religious places of worship.
(4) Digging of wells for public will destroy the issues, but digging of wells in a hospital or within the premises of cremation ground will not be harmful.
Mars in your 11th house
Mars gives good results in this house, because this house is influenced by Jupiter and Saturn. If Jupiter is in exalted position, Mars gives very good results. Native is courageous and just and usually a trader.
Remedies
(1) One should never sell one's ancestral property.
(2) Keeping Sindoor or honey in an earthen pot will give good results.
Mercury in your 10th house
Mercury in the 10th house provides favour from the government. Gives good sources of livelihood.he manages to get his work done in every way. The business of such a native flourishes in a shermukhi house, but residency in such a house gives very bad result and can be disastrous.
Remedies
(1) Consumption of eggs, meat and liquor are strictly prohibited.
(2) Offer rice and milk in religious places.
Jupiter in your 11th house
Jupiter in this house affects the things and relatives of his enemies Mercury, Venus and Rahu very adversely. Consequently, the wife of the native will remain miserable. Similarly, sisters, daughters and father's sisters will also remain unhappy. The native will be a debtor even if Mercury is well placed. The native will be comfortable only as long as his father lives with him in a joint family along with brothers, sisters and mother.
Remedies
(1) Always keep gold on your body.
(2) Put on a copper bangle.
(3) Watering a pipal tree would prove beneficial.
Venus in your 12th house
Exalted Venus gives very beneficial results in this house. The native will have a wife, who will act as a shield in the time of trouble. Taking help from women will prove highly advantageous for the native, who receives all favours from the government.
Venus being inimical to Jupiter causes health problems to the wife. Mercury in 2nd or 6th houses makes the native diseased, but bestows literary and poetic talent to the native. Such a native gains high spiritual powers at the age of 59 and generally lives up to about 96 years.
Remedies
(1) Blue flowers to be buried by the wife at the time of sunset, for good health.
(2) The wife will act as a defence wall for the husband, if she gives things in charity to people.
(3) Domesticating and giving cows in charity.
(4) Offer love, respect and honour to your wife.
Saturn in your 10th house
This is Saturn's own house, where it will give good results. The native will enjoy wealth and property as long as he does not get a house constructed. Native will be ambitious and enjoy favours from government. The native should behave with shrewdness and should do his work while sitting at one place; only then he will enjoy the benefits of Saturn.

(1) Going to temple.
(2) Abstinence from meat, wine and eggs.

Rahu in your 10th house
Keeping ones head uncovered gives the effect of a debilitated Rahu in 10th house. The good or bad result of Rahu would depend upon Saturn's position. If Saturn is auspicious then native would be brave, long lived and rich and get respect from all quarters. If Rahu in 10th house is with Moon it gives Raja Yoga. The native is lucky for ones father. 4th house belongs to Moon, which is an enemy of Ketu. If Ketu is benefic in 4th house then the native is god fearing and lucky for his father and guru. Son is born to such a native only after getting the blessings of one's guru. The son born lives long. Such a native leaves all his decisions to God. If moon is in 3rd or 4th house the result is benefic. Such a native is a good adviser and will never have shortage of money. The functional nature of planets is the key analytical factor in the horoscope analysis. Besides Rahu and Ketu, the planets, whose mooltrikona signs are in malefic houses (sixth, eighth and twelfth) with reference to the ascendant, act as functional malefic planets in a nativity. The functional nature of any planet depends on the nature of the mooltrikona house of that planet. It is not related to the strength of the planet. Sun in House XI
If Benefic FOR KESHAV
If native is not non-vegetarian, he/she will have three sons. He/She will be long-lived, chief of the family, attain high post in government.
If Malefic
If Sun is not combined or aspected by male planets in eleventh house and Moon is situated in fifth house, native will be childless.
Remedies
Keep five radishes or almonds head side while sleeping on the bed in night. Donate it to some temple in the morning to become long-lived and to have child. Never have non-vegetarian food. Never drink any liquor. Never become false witness and never do any forgery.
Sun in your 11th house
If benefic: yes-benefic
(1) If the native is vegetarian he will have three sons and will himself be head of the house and will get benefits from government.
If malefic:
(1) The Moon is in the 5th house and the Sun is not aspected by good planets, the will have a short life span.
Remedial Measures :
(1) Abstain from meat and wine.
(2) Keep almonds or radishes near the head of the bed and offer it in the temple next day for long life and children.
Moon in House VI
If Benefic
Education will be full of hurdles but will be completed and result oriented. If Jupiter is in second house, the effect of Moon will never be inauspicious. If Sun is in twelfth house, native or his/her spouse will be one-eyed.
If Malefic FOR KESHAV
If Mercury is in second or twelfth house, native may commit suicide. If the Mercury accompany Moon in sixth house, Mars is in fourth or eight house, native’s mother may die in his/her childhood.
Remedies
Feed milk to father by your own hands. Do not drink milk in the night. Construct drinking water sources (wells, hand-pump etc.) free of cost for the public. Construct water tap or wells in hospitals. Donate milk.
Moon in your 6th house-malefic
This house is affected by the Mercury and Ketu. The Moon in this house will be affected by the planets placed in the 2nd, 8th, 12th and 4th houses. The native will receive education with obstacles and will have to struggle a lot for reaping the benefits of his educational achievements.
If the Moon is placed in the 6th, 2nd, 4th, 8th and 12th houses it is auspicious. The native would enliven a dying person by putting a few drops of water in his mouth.
But if the Moon is malefic in the 6th house and Mercury is placed in the 2nd or 12th house, the native will have suicidal tendencies. Similarly, if the Moon is malefic and the Sun is placed in the 12th house, then the native or his wife or both will have severe eye defects and troubles.
Remedies
(1) Serve milk to your father with your own hands.
(2) Never take milk during night. But intake of milk during day time and use of even curd and cheese during night is permissible.

(4) Digging of wells for public will destroy the issues, but digging of wells in a hospital or within the premises of cremation ground will not be harmful.
Mars in House XI
If Benefic FOR KESHAV
Native will be non-violent, respects teachers, religious mind, lawful. Native will have benefits from relatives. Native may be involved in business related to pet animals. Mars will be highly auspicious if Jupiter is also auspicious. Native will have influx of wealth from 28th year to 52nd year of age. If Jupiter is with Mars in eleventh house, native will have two brothers. If Jupiter is INauspicious, throw the articles of Jupiter in running water (river etc.) to make it auspicious.
If Malefic
If third house is empty, the inauspicious Mars will result in heavy debt. Native may sell off the ancestral property but still he/she will not hold money. The inauspicious effect remains till the age of 45th year of age. Native will be patient and children will be quarrelsome.
Remedies

Mars in your 11th house-benefic
Mars gives good results in this house, because this house is influenced by Jupiter and Saturn. If Jupiter is in exalted position, Mars gives very good results. Native is courageous and just and usually a trader.
Remedies
(1) One should never sell one's ancestral property.
(2) Keeping Sindoor or honey in an earthen pot will give good results.
Mercury in House X

Venus will give inauspicious results of second and seventh houses are empty. The wife of the native will face all the problems but will not get helps from others. Venus in your 12th house-benefic

Rahu in your 10th house-malefic

4th house belongs to Moon, which is an enemy of Ketu. If Ketu is benefic in 4th house then the native is god fearing and lucky for his father and guru. Son is born to such a native only after getting the blessings of one's guru. The son born lives long. Such a native leaves all his decisions to God. If moon is in 3rd or 4th house the result is benefic. Such a native is a good adviser and will never have shortage of money. If Ketu is malefic in this house then the native is unhealthy, his mother is troubled, there is loss of happiness. One may suffer from diabetes. A son is born after thirty six years of age.
